All new riders are required (encouraged) to complete the 6 week course prior to participating in road riding or racing.  This ensures that riders are ready to take on the challenge of the open road.  By completing this course all participants have a sound knowledge of their bikes, build a good skills base, have bike safety awareness and know more about what cycling is like as a sport and what Tamworth Cycle Club has to offer.

Over the 6 weeks you will be able to participate in Tuesday afternoon skills training conducted by fully qualified coaches.  This is a combined session with Tamworth Triathalon Club and is held at the Tamworth Equine Centre located on Goonoo Goonoo Road  from 4-5pm.  In these sessions you will learn about bike and road safety, learn great new bike skills and have first hand advice from our qualified coaches.

This is also a great opportunity for parents to ask questions about cycling and what is available.  If interested you will also have the opportunity to attend track training at the Velodrome, located on the corner of Kable Avenue and Peel Street.  Track training is held on Monday and Wednesday nights from 6.00pm to 7.30pm and racing on Friday nights from 6.00pm – 7.30pm.

In the last week of the course your abilities and skill levels will be assessed by our qualified coaches. This assessment will gauge what stage you are at and whether you are ready to participate.  It is important to note that some riders may take longer than others to build their skill level up and safety is our highest priority.  Once you have successfully completed the course you will also receive your Tamworth Cycle Club Course Completion Certificate.

At this stage coaches will talk to you and your parents about the other opportunities, activities and events that you may like to start participating in.  If you decide cycling is for you, membership papers will need to be drawn up.  Membership is a must as it provides you with the correct insurance for the level of activity you choose to undertake.

Once the above course is completed junior cyclists will have the option to become licensed and part of the Tamworth Cycle Club All Star Juniors.  Once membership is paid you will be able to participate in the other many and varied activities.
